Centre for the Study of Comprehensive Schools CSCS is a charitable trust. Web site has information about its aims and activities to support secondary education and comprehensives. CERUK (current educational research database) CERUK (current educational research database) - contains a list of educational research being undertaken currently in the UK. It is sponsored by NFER, DfES and the EPPI Centre (see below). Children’s Services Network (CSN) Now making the transition to a new identity as the Children's Services Network (CSN), The Education Network (TEN) was originally launched by the Local Government Information Unit in 1997 to help develop, promote and disseminate the role and good practice of local authorities in the delivery of education. Since then, it has grown in size, membership and influence - establishing a strong reputation for quality, reliability and an innovative approach. CIPFA - Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy - information and advice about financial management in the public sector. Department for Education and Skills (DfES) The DfES has built up a labyrinth of interconnected sites covering all aspects of education. Eurostat Eurostat, the statistical arm of the European Commission, produces statistical publications including "Key Data on Education". EURYBASE EURYBASE is a database on education systems in Europe. EURYDICE also has its own database, EURYBASE (see separate entry). Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre (EPPI-Centre) The Centre (EPPI-Centre) is part of the Social Science Research Unit (SSRU), Institute of Education, University of London and covers education research. eppi.ioe.ac.uk/EPPIWeb/home.aspx General Teaching Council The professional body for teaching in England, provides an opportunity for teachers to shape the development of professional practice and policy, and to maintain and set professional standards. Governornet This is part of the DfES website with information for governors. The Institute houses several research centres. National College for School Leadership National College for School Leadership web site – information about the college and its aims along with information for school leaders. National Statistics web site National Statistics web site – this site allows you to search official UK statistics and information about statistics. NERF (The National Educational Research Forum) NERF was formed in 1999 by the then Secretary of State for Education, David Blunkett, to develop a national strategy for educational research. NERF came to an end on 31st March 2006. The website is being maintained as a place to access many of the useful reports and notes of activities. The site has a useful list of education research centres. NFER (The National Foundation for Educational Research) The National Foundation for Educational Research aims to gather, analyse and disseminate research based information with a view to improving education and training – online access to their publications. OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) OECD site – link from this to the education section - some comparative statistics and tables looking at educational acheivement in different countries. Office of Public Sector information The Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) has grown out of Her Majesty’s Stationery Office (HMSO). OPSI has a broad remit to advise on and regulate the operation of the re-use of public sector information. HMSO continues to exist and fulfil its core activities including responsibility for the publication of legislation and the management of Crown copyright operating from within OPSI. Official Documents Official Documents is the official reference facility for Command and departmentally sponsored House of Commons Papers. From May 2005 onwards, all Command Papers and House of Commons Papers, as well as Key Departmental Papers, were available free on the site in PDF format. A selection of key papers published before May 2005 is also available free in the archive. OFSTED Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) web site (officially the Office of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools in England) home page. This site has links to individual reports under the appropriate subject headings. OFSTED’s remit is extending across children’s services. Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) web site – links to pages on curriculum and assessment, the national framework of qualifications, research commissioned by QCA and a statistics section. Research and Statistics from the DfES The gateway on the DfES site to research reports commissioned by the DfES and official statistics. Standards Site The Standards Site covers a range of policy ventures aimed at raising standards of education in schools – links to information on literacy, numeracy, personalised learning, academies etc. The Stationery Office The Stationery Office bookshop site – large education section – description of all the books available including all official publications. Teachernet General information and links for teachers, but much of the explanatory information is useful for everyone. Times Educational Supplement The TES web site features news stories from the current issue and a searchable archive of back issues. Training and Development Agency for Schools A government agency providing training information for the whole school workforce. UK Education Departments Education in the rest of the UK (ie Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) is largely or entirely a devolved responsibility.
